This
web page is dedicated to all the women travelers
and explorers who dared to follow their dreams.
They come from different walks of life and professions,
but they share a common denominator: their love
of travel and their ability to communicate their
knowledge of other cultures from this vast planet
of ours.
The
word Trotamundas is a new Spanish word meaning "women
globetrotters". Only the masculine version
exists in the Spanish dictionary under the word
"Trotamundos" or "men globetrotters",
so I have created the word which justly describes
the women who travel.
Some of the most amazing women travelers are now
dead and many of them forgotten; their incredible
achievements buried under the sand of forsakeness.
It is my honour and privilege to bring a little
light on their exploits, their adventures, their
challenges and the wealth of knowledge about the
world and themselves that they tried to communicate.
Some
of them travelled for work, some for pleasure, many
for both. They all share the enjoyment of adventure
that they found in faraway places from their own.
Most of them have left written recollections of
their experiences for us all to enjoy.
Let
us rejoice in the knowledge that many women long
before our time, started the journey of discovery
around this incredible, great, awesome and mysterious
world of ours. Let us also enjoy the new experiences
of women closer in time to ourselves knowing that
the journey continues and that women can achieve
what they set out to do.
This
page will welcome your contributions in terms of
ideas, suggestions, possible additions etc.etc.
If
you have an article about an interesting journey
or about a woman traveller and would like to share
it with us, please send it. Every month, the best
article will be shown in the website.
I
look forward to hearing from you
